11" Platter with traditional "Calligraphic Design".
The "Calligraphic Design" (Calligrafico)
This style starts at the beginning of the 17th century.
Probably it was inspired by oriental or persian ceramics. Its key elements are subjects from the natural world such as birds, plants, animals etc..
Later on western elements like castles, belltowers, and human subjects made their way in this decoration.
At first it was painted using only blue, then more colors were introduced (copper green, orange, yellow and blue).
